Question:

Where do I find a slow small electric motor AC or DC?

I am trying to make a rotating bb target. I went to Radio Shack and they got these little electric motors but they spin way to fast.....o.....lo -O-o .....l .....o It would be shaped something like this (above). The motor would turn the center and 4 targets are connected with a 3 inch metal rod to the center. Total length is about 9 inches, 2quot; tin disk targets and the center would be like a 3quot; tin diskIf this makes any sense? Any ideas and what power motor do you think I would need and how to do this? I am beginner when it comes to electric motors. AC would be prefered but DC will still be ok.

Answer:

Radio Shack Motors
Hard one. I got some cool little dc motors out of a 5 CD changer lately. But, like you said, they spin too fast. Actaully I am working on how to slow them down too :D. I think you can do it with a high wattage potentiometer. If you go for ac you can get smallish motors (usually universal or shaded pole) out of old ovens (fanbake ovens). But to alter the speed on an ac motor I think you need to get into pulse width, 555 timers and such things, which is not simple. Your best bet might be getting an drill like builders use. they spin very slow on low speed, and in fact, the cheap ones coming out of China now spin slow just because they are so s h i t ! :D
