Where do the Cu2+ ions come from to jump on the cathode?

In the galvanic cell, Zn2+ jumping off makes much sense as it loses electrons, but why? And where do the Cu2+ ions that jump on the copper bar come from? How come they are already in the solution somehow? I understand that they would jump on to the cathode because electrons are coming from the Zn bar, but where do they come from in the first place? I‘ve been struggling with this for quite a while.
