I have an 1986 two door s10 blazer that im thinking of redoing the pulling out all the old speaker wire and putting in new speaker wire. Where does the speaker wire usually run? Is it under the carpet or what? And what gauge of speaker wire should i run through there?
Are the speakers working OK.? If they are,leave them alone ( If they are not broke don't mend them)
Yeah running speaker wire is a chore. Usually the wire is good for many years. If you do change it though use 16 gage for your high and mid speakers and usually 8 gage for your sub woofer.
Does your amp have enough output channels to run the speakers in addition to the subwoofer? Don't connect your front and rear speakers to the same output as the sub. If you're replacing four car speakers, you'd need a 5-channel or 6-channel amp to use the same amp for all your speakers and your sub. You don't have to run your speaker wire back to the trunk, through the amp, and back up front. Speaker wire runs directly from the amp to the speaker, and nowhere else. If you're connecting your speakers to an amp, then don't also have them connected to the head unit. You'll damage your head unit and amp that way.
speaker wire usually runs through either the side panels or the top panels in your car, I have never seen wire ran under the carpet. I usually use 16 gauge speaker wire when hooking up any new speaker, but if the speakers are not that loud you can use 18gauge or higher.
