India was once known for having the higest quality Iron in the world. They even exported it along the silk road to Damascus, where it was used to forge the infamous Damascus Steel blades.
The total recoverable reserves of iron ore in India are about 9,602 million tones of hematite and 3,408 million tones of magnetite. Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Bihar, Orissa, Goa, Maharashtra, Kerala, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu are the principal Indian producers of iron ore. Hope this helps.
