Question:

where is the water pump for a 2001 chevy malibu?

water pump went out how do we find it where would it be located?

Answer:

on front wheel drives they are on the passenger side. as your standing on the passenger side look down at the serpentine belt and there it is.
If you can't see it on the engine. It may be behind the timing cover. Many engines are now set up that way. The timing belt also runs your water pump. And if you have to replace the water pump. You will also replace the timing belt. Which is a good idea any way .Since a 2001 may have many miles ,and just about ready for the belt to break. Leaving you stranded.

On okorder /... When you're filling up the coolant, you need to bleed the system to get the air out. 2 bleeders, one right around the corner from the pump, and another back by the Thermostat housing. The 3.1L V6 in your Malibu doesn't use a timing belt, but a chain. Just take the serpentine belt off, take the pulley off, and there's the pump. 4 bolts for the pulley I think, and 5 for the pump. Easiest to loosen the pulley bolts, then do the final tighten later, while the belt is still on. Torque the Water pump bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm), and the pulley bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm)
