I've owned and lived in 4 mobile homes over the past 35 yearsThey have changed a lot and are more like houses now but not in the pastAfter WWII when there was no housing our family of 4 lived in a trailor with a bunk at either end and table that pulled out from the wall when the bed wasn't in use.
Chronologically my living abodes were strictly single family detached housesNext came a 2 story townhouse w/attached garage (very modern and chic)Thereafter followed by a very old but well maintained loong mobilehome located in Angeles National Forest in CA; years of different transient motel rooms that were made bearable by the wonderful diverse people that helped educate me on how to be homeless with dignity; a travel trailer hitched to my car that taught me how to survive comfortably with a gas generator or car battery inverter for electricity; a pup tent besides the San Gabriel River with a WWII mummy sack sleeping bag that I could wear in a storm and yet use my arms and legs and relieve my bladder without removal; and finally my midsize sedan with two cats who were kind enough to remain curled up or seated while I drove with the windows open and never bolted while we'd stretch at the park ad joggers with dogs ran byIt's been quite adventurous but when you have a good self of yourself and are tuned into why and what you are doing it for, then the actual living structure is the same: homeIf I had to be in those unusual and awkward circumstances without a firm goal or motive it would have been too dangerous and resulted in harm either from another person or my own ignoranceFortunately, I knew how to get by and kept a hotline to my Higher SpiritOh yes, almost forgot, I'm now in a duplex:)
I live in a metal building that has had several businesses in it over the course of many yearsLast business was a kennel for boarding and grooming dogs and cats, so the tub is off the floor to make it easier to bathe dogs and cats, so we have to use a step stool to get in and outWe have a toilet, bathroom sink, kitchen sink, few cabinets, refrigerator, microwave, slow cooker, hot plate, and a toaster ovenWe lost our house and everything in it last January to a flood, and since this is about 4 - 4 1/2 feet off the ground, I hope I don't have to worry about that again.
Barracks in the Army and dorms in collegeShort but memorable living in a garage while we dismantled oil storage tanks in West Texas to convert into grain storage tanks, Week long trips in the Gulf Of Mexico on a commercial fishing boatI have always been game to try alternate living accommodationsI did travel extensively for about ten years and lived in motels and ate in cafes and restaurantsHowever, be it ever so humble, there is no place like home.
