I'm trying to build a portable fire pit with a buddie of mine and we plan on using an aluminum washing machine drumDoes anyone know where to find one? Can I just go to the town run landfill and try and find one? I live in albany new york, I'm not sure how to find a scrapyard where one would be.Also if you guys have any other ideas for a fire pit let me knowthanks!
Aluminum drums are not used in clothes washing machinesStainless steel on high end units; or more likely enameled steel are common(In any event, don't use aluminum; it melts at a real low temp to begin with.) Junk yards are one sourceGet to know one of the yard workers, and offer a bounty of $5 for steel; $10 for stainless ones, and you should get some in no time(Money talks to these folks.) If they let you, bring your own tools and extract awayI use them for other jobs as wellThey make excellent aerators for soil when planting container tomatoesI cover small seedlings/saplings in winter (with a heavy cover) to keep deer from browsing them downOne over the septic tank with a large potted flower inside keeps leaves and junk from covering the tank lid, and keep it accessible during winter in the event of an emergency tank fix issue.
