I'm waiting for a Bulldozer so I'm not choosing which one to buy.Phenom II X4 975 3.6Ghz VS. Phenom II X6 1100T 3.3GhzI'm looking at stuff like rendering HD video, multitasking, and gaming. My reasoning for 1100T:I know gaming doesn't utilize all 6 cores from the 1100T, but from benchmarks there have been more stable and higher overclocks with the 1100T. In the future I'm certain that games will start using 6+ cores, making the 1100T better in the long run.My reasoning for the 975:Does it really matter? Is a fan good enough to handle 1100T's overclocking abilities? Do you truly need those 2 extra cores in the next year or two down the road before you upgrade?I would love benchmarks or your own answers.Thank You.
Video rendering will certainly use those extra 2 cores, as long as you don't let your hard drive bottleneck you. If you're only working with a single hard drive it doesn't matter if you get X4 or X6 since both of those will well surpass the ability of that hard drive. For gaming, either of them will work equally well since they both exceed what any games will use right now. Pair it with the right GPU and you can play anything on max settings either way. Multitasking isn't entirely about the processor, it's also about the RAM so make sure you have plenty of that. The only reason 6 cores would make sense over 4 here is if you're rendering HD video AND playing a game. If you're working on a video, searching around online, listening to music, and chatting on instant messenger all at once you still won't be using all of the power of the X4. If you're waiting for bulldozer, you'll be waiting until at least September. They were delayed because they benchmarked way too low to compete with Sandy Bridge. Some of the higher-end Llano processors don't look too bad, but they'll fall more into the "budget" category. I'm waiting for Ivy Bridge. With 22nm geometry and the 3D transistors they should easily overclock to 5Ghz and beyond.
They didn't have the 975BE so i just chose the 980BE My personal opinion, for the same price the 2500k is way more overclockable and even at stock, will pound an overclocked 1100t. Nothing AMD has to offer can hold a candle to sandy bridge. Maybe bulldozer will change that.
