It depends on a day to day value of copper and nickel. The cents after 1982 are only copper plated zinc and labor plus cost of striking them make them cost more than a cent to make not just the metals. It does not really matter for it is against the law to melt cents or nickels or even to remove large quantities out of the country. At this time due to the cost of melting it is not practical anyway. The Secret Service looks at sales of copper and nickel bars, so it is not a wise idea to melt them.
