Question:

which fuel additive do I use?

Hello,I own a 1994 toyota pickup.I was wondering what fuel additive to use.I have heard Seafoam, lucas, and marvel mystery oil.Any input?? What is all the hype about using MMO in my crank case/oil?

Answer:

If you use a high grade high mileage oil like Castrol High Mileage, you don't really need additives. There are additives already in there. Add a can of B-12 to a full tank of gas once a month.
I recommend using absolutely no additives. Gas companies spend lots of money engineering fuels to work as required, and putting in additives generally screws things up. Same as oil, just use good, clean oils, and change it regularly to keep it clean. I've seen too many engines and transmissions literally destroyed by someone believing an additives claims, it's a shame. One guy filled his Ford 390 with STP. yeah, 6 quarts of it. Ugh. Anyway, I suggest to just use what the engine is made for.
NAPA and Carquest has 3M Total Fuel System Cleaner (16 oz.) which we feel is a little stronger than Lucas, Sea Foam or Marvel gas treatment. The 3M procuct is the only one which describes cleaning the combustion chamber. The 3M Company makes hundreds of household and commercial products. They would never enter a market if the product was marginal. If you're using a quality motor oil and change it regularly nowhere in any car or truck manual does it say to use aftermarket crankcase oil additive products. If you want better motor oil switch to full synthetic.
