Hmmm a diode bridge can change ac to dc, but not just a diode. all it does is block current flow one way a converter - as in an inverter? This will convert dc to ac a transformer only works with ac, because it depends on the magnetic flux I dont' even know what a mercury arc rectifier is, but it sounds like it might work
