Question:

Which type of vacuum cleaner is good?

I am planning to buy a vaccum cleaner to my home. What do you guys think having a portable one rather than the normal heavy kind?Any idea about the price of an average one?

Answer:

Dyson if you can afford one or Electrolux
A bad idea. I think Dyson make the best vacuum cleaners and there not too heavy if weight is an issue. Portable models often lack the power to clean well or quickly, and in the end when your cleaning those two reasons should direct your purchase.
I would also not recommend getting something too light, meaning it's only meant for small jobs. They generally are built using cheaper or lightweight components that will wear out quickly. Having owned many vacuums over the years, I can tell you that I still prefer a model that uses a bag. Here's why; the bag makes things neater. When it's full, I throw it out. Those models that use a small cup or whatever make a heck of a mess everytime you want to empy it; a big cloud of dust etc. always surrounds the garbage bin. I also find that many of those models require frequent cleaning of the filters, or replacement. The Dyson might be the exception to all this but quite frankly the price is a big barrier for me. My last and current vacuum is an Oreck upright that seems to be very well made and works better than any other model I've ever owned.
The best vacuum cleaners are Kirby vacuums... hands down! It'll pick up things from your carpet that you didn't even know existed. The drawbacks to it are that it is very heavy and it costs a pretty penny (about $2,000).
get a sanitaire commercial vac. they pick up everything
