My advice to you would be to get gloves only if you feel that they will improve your performance. Otherwise, if you feel that they won't make a difference, then you should not use them. By the way, you should be able to find a pair at your local Kohl's, or sporting good store, at a much cheaper price.
Smoke detectors sometimes become dirty and need to be vacuumed out. They also will chirp when a fault is detected. The cheapest way is to clean it with a vacuum. If this doesn't solve the problem you should upgrade to the new beam sensor detectors. These are more reliable. My detectors are hard wired in my house with no batteries. I have never seen a detector hard wired with a battery back-up? Also if you replace them don't throw them in the trash as they must be disposed of at a hazardous depot, usually free of charge.
Yes, it's normal to be embarrassed by that kind of behavior. If I were you, I'd video tape her while she's dong it and play it back with any luck she'll be embarrassed, but she'll probably get defensive instead. Anyway, just tell her how what she does makes you feel and that in the future, if she takes any calls in public that you are going to sit in the car and wait until she finishes her conversation.
