Why are cobwebs called...cob webs?

Why not just spider web. Are there so many spider webs in the corn cob pile in the silo/barn? That it got this name?

Corner Of Barn webs. C.O.B webs. cobwebs
That is a real good question but a farmer told me it stands for Corner Of Barn Webs = COB Webs. Farmer would go to the barn in the morning and get stuff and he would see many webs. Hope this helps. Peace
No...nothing to do with corn. The word came from another (cobbe) that was used over 700 years ago: Origin: 1275–1325; Middle English coppeweb, derivative of Old English -coppe spider (in ātorcoppe poison spider); cognate with Middle Dutch koppe; see web
