Almost every time I see a news story and they include video of the scene, I can see very clearly that the fire hoses leak water, especially at the points where two hoses are joined.Is there some sort of reason behind this other than worn equipment?

There's hardly any elaboration. It's really just I did this, I did that, I did this, then I do that. How does the narrator feel when she sees a message from him? How does she feel when she sees him playing the guitar? The reader needs to feel exactly what the protagonist is feeling. In a nutshell: more elaboration on emotions and how the narrator feels.
