Question:

Why are some people so desperate for copper?

To where some even risk their lives by cutting live, high-voltage power-lines. It is not like it is gold or something. It seems like copper thefts have been occurring more and more lately. The place where I volunteer recently had a bunch of copper piping and hundreds of dollars worth of copper fittings stolen from the shop. I also heard on the news lately that copper wire was stolen out of some of the cities streetlights. Also my friend's neighbor had the copper radiators from the A/C units ripped off of the roof of his work building. Why are so many people so desperate to get copper with some even being bold or going to extremes to get it?
