Why is there a big emphasis on things like homosexuality, but not on gambling or cursing or eating shellfish, which are all refferred to as sinful in the eyes of god?
God didn't make homosexuality, that's sin. There is nothing wrong with eating shellfish. There is a bigger emphasis on homosexuality because it's a bigger problem these days, but there is still emphasis on gambling, cussing, and other ungodly ways 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, homosexuals, thieves, greedy, drunks, or swindlers will not inherit the kingdom of God.
I am not trying to be difficult, but I am catholic and currently go to a nondenominational christian church, and I have never heard in a mass or church service an emphasis on homosexuality. Honestly most christians that I know are not against gay people. But anyway, I think that people cherry-pick their beliefs because some things are obviously wrong like lying and stealing and others like gambling or eating shellfish (lol) don't hurt anyone so why not? Thats just my opinion.
Some Christians think certain books of the Bible no longer apply, because Jesus' birth nullified them. Read the book of Leviticus, it's chock full of archaic, asinine rules and regulations, don't wear cloth woven from two materials, don't plant fields with two different crops, don't interbreed animals, don't shave your beard. Leviticus also decrees homosexuality is an abomination, as is sleeping with your menstruating wife without first preforming all kinds of cleansing rituals. So while they can plow their tomato/carrot garden riding on a mule wearing polyester sporting a goatee before turning in to have sex with their bleeding wives, homosexuality is still bad. Why? Because it's mentioned in other parts of the Bible, never once is it addressed by Jesus, who is supposedly God and the son of God and the Holy Spirit all at once. But who wrote the Bible? Mortal man wrote it and it's been edited and re-edited over and over again, but it's still deemed 'the word of God'.so long as it fits into their agendas/lifestyles.
