Why do churches have lightning rods, why not have faith in god instead?
My first instinct is to reject the idea, but I also think it could be used to simplify the voting process. If a citizen could swipe an ID card at any poling place and have a ballot appear that would cover all the matters to be voted on in his or her home district, perhaps the need for absentee voting (and all the abuses that go with it) could be eliminated. I would especially like to see that made available for all members of the armed services and students away from their homes. It does seem to me that the government could make the program cost effective. Perhaps we should out source it to MasterCard or Visa. (Just kidding!but, they do have the experience)
As far an I'm concerned, my drivers license and my passport are all I should need, but it seems that my medicare card is also very important. Maybe having only one card to worry about would be the way to go, but would it replace the passport when I leave the country?
No. The government already knows more about us than I care for. If I were young enough I would drop off the grid entirely. The direction the country is headed for does not look promising. Sometimes I'm actually glad that I'm old and don't have a lot of time left, but I worry about my children and grandchildren. What will our country be in thirty or forty years? In a hundred years we might even become a third world country.
Everybody needs a valid picture ID, but a driver's license or ID from your state's DMV should be sufficient since you're supposed to show a birth certificate and social security card to get your initial ID. Those of you who are blaming this administration for this idea need to think back and remember that this idea was one of the ideas of the previous administration after 9/11. So is the case with those intrusive airport body scanners that penetrate your clothing and show the entire surface of your naked body if you are one of those chosen randomly to be scanned. Quite honestly, I'd rather have a national ID than have some random TSA agent looking at my naked form on the scanner screen.
Even more, some of those homes have burned down three times in the past 15 years. They need to make 'em out of concrete, or build them elsewhere, or develop all the wild areas that are upwind of the houses so there's no more brush.
