They go off a lot for now reason at anytime of day or night. They scare my babies and wake us up at night. Due to being in housing we are not allowed to remove them or take out the bataries, what can I do about this pesky noise?
i never leave them on. its really sketchy. they will stay warm for awhile though

Funny thing, Jane has the correct answer to how would a PROFESSIONAL plumber get around this problem. There IS a special tool, it is called a Jet Sweat. A professional would NEVER use bread, that is a DIY'er trick printed in books at Home Depot. The problem for you is this kit is very expensive for a DIY'er, and you need a valve, or must install a valve to use this tool. A couple of things a professional would do. 1. Make sure everything is open while you are trying to drain things down. 2. Empty water out of the water heater drain. 3. Crack the nut at the meter if the water won't stop 4. Stick a wedge of some sort between the pipe and the floor joist to make a belly to collect the water. 5. Use an acetylene torch which is much hotter and can fight off a little water. Good Luck!
Most modern heating blankets are safe. be Sure you use one with the UL label. Consider getting one with dual controls if you have a partner. Most men don't like the same level of heating as women. Don't use a blanket after it gets worn they tend to from shorts and hot spots inside and can catch fire or burn you but, more modern insulation has minimized this problem. Blankets do put off a considerable EMF of the type power lines have been accused of . I don't think there is any truth or evidence that these are dangerous but, there has been a lot of talk. You can lower nighttime temperatures and save some fuel. In Europe many people don't heat their homes at night and in the daytime only in the evening. I have been told this is quite common in Germany.
