Question:

why do some chlorine tablets have copper in them will this turn your hair green?

Someone said the tabs with copper will turn your hair green, the cheaper ones at Wal-Mart have the copper. Has anyone else had this problem?

Answer:

copper is sometimes used as an algecide. Use Swim Free shampoo. I get it at walmart and drugstores. It works great.
It wont turn your hair green but,it is toxic to your whole body and you may loose your hair by consuming it
chlorine will turn color treated (usually blond) hair green. There are a number of products that will help remove the green. You could try AloeRid made by NNexus
a friend in high school use to have her hair turn green in the summer from swimming in the pool. They supposedly make a shampoo that will take that out. Unfortunately I do not remember the name. Sorry
Copper, when used properly in a swimming pool, can aid in the prevention of algae growth in the hottest months of the summer. However, if you do not know how to control it, the metals can break out of suspension into the water and cause metal staining on your pool bottom, sides, steps, skimmer basket, etc. It may also cause the water to turn a yellowish brown color but still perfectly clear enough to see to the bottom. The copper level in the pool may also turn blonde hair green. This is due to the harsh alkaline level. If it happens, you need to shampoo with a more acidic swimmers shampoo. I believe Aveda may sell one that gets the green out.
