Our boiler in the building keeps flicking on and off and on and off and the pipes keep making these loud cracking sounds. Anyone know what causes that? (already waiting to here back from the landlord)
The boiler probably has either too much, or not enough water in it. Look at it and see if there is a glass tube that shows water level. There should be a mark on it to show you where the level should be.
a thermostat or some other device used to sense and regulate the control temperature or pressure is probably faulty. if its a steam boiler the loud noise is most likely water hammer. water that doesn't drain back to the boiler correctly gets pulled along with the steam at a high velocity and hits an elbow or tee in the piping, making a hammering sound.
