Answer:

First thing in the morning is best to startHe has to pee badMake him go out and leave him out there until he goesYou could even confine him in the box until he does.
For my dog, we got a pair of bells and put them next to the door so my dog could ring them when he had to go to the bathroomAfter he ate, or when it would be time for him to go out we stood him up and let him ring it with his paws and we'd say good boy and give him a treat so he'd know he was doing something goodTry getting some bells or chimes to put near the balcony door and train him in the morning and at night before the times you'd like him to use itEventually he sould catch on.my dog did within the first couple of weeks! Hope it helps.
Think about itYou've spent his entire life making him go outside and now you are changing the rules on himThat is very confusingTake the Petapotty outside firstGet him to go on itHis scent will then be on it and he will still feel that he is doing the right thing and won't get into trouble Slowly move the petapotty indoorsSlowly! He will eventually get the ideaPraise him profusely when he goes on it.
I live in an apartment and I find using a pee pad it easierwhen I first started using the pee pad I had placed it near the door and when my dog got the hang of that I place it outside on the balconyEver since he been using itBut if your Yorkie can hold it the best bet will take him outside where he will go.
It does get hot, but it's so thin that it cools off really quickAlso, being so very thin, there isn't a lot of heat stored in the foilFor example, if you heat a cast iron pan in the oven and touch itall the heat stored in the big hunk of metal will burn your fingerWhile a sheet of aluminum foil, will be at the same temperature, but it doesn't store that much heat.
