Question:

Why doesnt the moon have a magnetic field?

The moon has a small molten core so shouldnt it also have a magnetic field?

Answer:

Check- it could invalidate your insurance too.
that is a tricky question.
Magnetic field doesn't juts come from the core, it also comes from the poles. the moon doesn't have a magnetic field b/c it's not large enough to have formed it's own rotation system.
Mars has to have a magnetic field- it rather is made out of iron. The pink planet. it rather is smaller by way of fact whilst it formed, in the swirling vortex that became that area of the universe, there became basically much less depend to grow to be interested in its self.
Coffin is technically correct, there is a very weak residual magnetic field. When you asked the question, though, and especially when you mention a molten core, I automatically assumed you to be asking about a dipole magnetic field like Earth's. In this respect Athena is correct, the Moon does not have a dipole magnetic field for the reasons she cites. And, as Natasha says, the Moon is formed of lighter materials than Earth is, since Earth robbed the Moon of most of the heavier metals when the two formed.
