Question:

Why is the first/second steps in photosynthesis named light-dependent and light-independent?

Why is the first/second steps in photosynthesis named light-dependent and light-independent?i know what happens but i still don't know how to answer why its called those names. Keep in mind that a simple but understandable answer is best in this case and that i also have to translate the answer into Irish s preferably not that advanced :p thanks in advance :)

Answer:

photosynthesis requires light to split water and transfer electrons down an electron transport system to make ATP. that is the light reacation. the 2nd step is the use of that ATP along with CO2 in the dark reaction//krebs cycle, to make ATP, O2 and glucose.
Light-dependent depends on light for energy. Light-independent doesn't need light for energy.
