Question:

Why isn't water available in aluminum cans?

So, an interesting question came to mind...There's plenty of carbonated soft drinks that come in aluminum cans, as well as in plastic bottles. And there's also non-carbonated drinks, like Minute Maid Lemonade and Tea that comes in aluminum cans. It's interesting how they contain ingredients like carbonated water, phosphoric acid, citric acid, potassium citrate..ect..So, my question is, why don't they have water in aluminum cans? Is it due to rust? And if that's the case, what's so special about carbonated drinks and non-carbonated drinks that don't allow the can to rust?:D Thanks.

Answer:

For starters, aluminium does not rust. It may oxidize, but that is beyond the scope of your question. Soft drinks and juices are sold and advertised through marketing, pointing to qualities as their taste and composition, so companies rely on glitzy paint and logos to sell their stuff, to distinguish from the other soft drink. But water? What is the ingredient in water? What can you sell, marketing wise? Answer: purity. So they put it in transparent plastic bottle so you can see that it is clear and pure. Ask yourself: would YOU buy a can of water? And if so, how much would you pay for it? And how would you decide on brand A over brand B?
its cost, why put water in cans?
If you want to change the pH of pure water from 7.0 to something greater than 7.0 try adding ammonia that will do it every time.
