what is the difference in texture that you get with plastic canvas yarn vs worsted yarn?
I use worsted in both wools and acrylics. but using these requires not using long strands as they do tend to fray while pulling through the canvas. ***********edit************* I have kleenex box covers my mother made way back in the early 70s and they all still look great!! Christmas ornaments from the same era, still great. and there was NO plastic canvas yarn then!!!
This is one time that I recommend Red Heart Supersaver Yarn. It is fantastic for working with plastic canvas: It's thick, wear-resistant, and holds its shape.* It comes in a ton and a half of colors, so you can find whatever color or blend your heart desires including sparkly ones. It's cheap. The only drawback is, if you just need a little bit of a color, you will have a lot of yarn leftover. Then, use plastic canvas yarn. *I made plastic canvas/Supersaver Christmas tree ornaments in 1991 that have been used on trees by 5 families every year since and stored in a variety of attics and unheated garages between holidays. They still look new.
