Question:

Why wasn't Jonathan Quick the second player to hoist the cup?

Isn't it an unwritten rule that when the goalie played great during the playoffs, he'll be the second to hoist - like Thomas last year? Quick was the playoffs MVP, so what did he have to do more to deserve it?

Answer:

Anybody who thinks quick wasn't THE reason LA won the Stanley Cup is a moron. a 1.41 GAA with a save percentage of .946? Thats unbelievable. To top it all off he had 3 shutouts while leading his team to a 16-4 record, as the 8 seed! Whoever said Brodeur deserved it more.... Quick was better in literally every category than brodeur through the playoffs. That being said, there were players that deserved to hoist that cup more than Quick did, plus Quick got his moment in the spotlight with the Conn Smythe. Alot of what goes into the order of who hoists the cup is just leadership and locker room personalities.
I think it's more of an unwritten rule to give the guy who has been in the league for many good years the cup first..I thought it was a great choice.
If you don't think Willie Mitchell deserved to hoist the Cup first, you got problems. I don't even know why they gave the MVP to Quick to be honest. Every year it's media hype that usually ends up winning the goalie the MVP, it's total b.s. I honestly thought Brodeur deserved to win the MVP more than Quick did. I would have picked Drew Doughty as MVP personally. Quick stank in game 5, and didn't have to be that great in most games. His team defense in front of him is and was awesome.
The Captain can hand the Cup to anyone he wants. Usually they hand it to the player that had to wait the longest to win the cup. For example, in 2001, Joe Sakic handed the Cup to Ray Bourque, he played in the NHL for over 20 years before finally winning the Stanley Cup. Steve Yzerman, after the Red Wings ended their 42 year drought, handed the Cup to the team owner first.
Typically goes to the player who waited the longest to win. Mitchell is 35, oldest on the team, and never even appeared in a finals game before this year. Quick will likely have great success in his career, and he is very young. In fact, most of the guys on the team are very young, only Mitchell, Scuderi, and Williams are over 30. Scuderi and Williams already won with Pittsburgh and Carolina, so Mitchell really deserved it the most. Not to mention he was the unsung hero of the team, playing the defensive defenseman role better than anyone in the league.
