Question:

why would a light fixture blink?

new light switch and fixture and light still flickers

Answer:

As you have stated light still flickers I am assuming it flickered before you worked on it. In fact, that's the reason you replaced the switch and fixture. Am I right? If so and you are using the old bulb, replace it. But I'm thinking you have already done that. Right? So then the original problem is still there. You must have a loose connection somewhere between that switch and the panel. Turn off the power to that circuit and open boxes one at a time checking and tightening all connections. You will surely find one or more before the problem finally goes away. Be careful, and good luck.
A loose bulb or a loose wire. As you've just changed the switch and fixture, you might want to double check your connections.
usually happens when the light bulb is weakened close to burning out.
check all connections made with wiring, and with power off make sure contact under light buld is not pushed in to far and is making a good contact to bulb.
Poor wiring connections, loose bulb, bulb that is about to fail, or a bad switch (I had that problem at a house that was just remodeled and the electrician just replaced all of the affected wall switches to fix the problem).
