The piece of rubber heater hose 1/2 inch by 5 inches in length. The copper pipe is the hot water line and I‘ve place a hose clamp on each end to secure the connection. I put this on there as an emergency repair, however, just wondering will the heater hose hold up to the home hot water temps.
Lowes Plumbing Department manager has evidently never worked in an autiomobile parts store. The normal operating temerature of an auomobile engine is around 200 degrees F. Hot water in your home may never reach 125 degrees. So---temperature won't rupture the hose. And the hose is attached with hose clamps on your cars engine, so why would the hose clamps leak on your water piping ? Just be ceratin the hose is slid up on the water pipe aboput 1 to 1 1/2 inches on each end and forget about it. And if you ever need expert advise on plumbing repairs be sure to shop the Home Depot.
The heater hose will handle the temperatures. I'd be concerned about the long term use of the connections because you don't have a flare on the pipes that holds the clamp in place after the hose is stretched over the flare and the hose clamp tightened down. Since water can do a lot of damage to a home if a leak goes undetected for a while, I'd be a little nervous about it as a long term fix.
