Will Alex Ovechkin go to the HHOF even if he never hoists The Cup?
Dino Ciccarelli, Phil Housley, and Eric Lindros were never on a Stanley Cup Winning team, and they made it.
HHOF doesn't even look at team accomplishments, only individual.. so of course he will
yes he's a great player regardless of if he wins the cup or not. I think Joe Thornton will also make the HHOF even if he doesn't win the cup for the same reason
If he woke up tomorrow and decided to retire, he'd go in the HHOF the minute he became eligible. His goal scoring (when you adjust for the goaltending he faced) rivals Gretzky and Lemieux and that's not even factoring in that the era he's playing in is much more systems-focused than what Gretzky and Lemieux faced. He's still on pace to score more than 40 goals this year in his 12th year. His playoff production is as good as any elite player despite teams game-planning against him. Look at the data and it's not him not performing in the playoffs; it's his teammates. They still should have won in 2010 (I wanted them to win mostly because it would have ushered in a 'screw it, let's just score at will' approach and would have been a nice change from the lock-down systems you currently see).
