Question:

will lime remove out door oders?

I live in the country and have lots of outside cats to help keep down mice etc. I have noticed that they have started to use the dirt under my car port and under my porch as a liter box. Some one told me to get Hydrated lime to take care of the order problem. Will this work and if so how will the lime destroy the order with out hurting the cats?

Answer:

ITs effect in almost instantaneous, you may need to wait for some rain to help the limes spread out and down into the soil to be useful. You really can not calculate the soil to lime ratio with the info you have here, not in terms of soil as a volume to lime. IN a solution lime is not very soluble, 2 grams per liter will leave solids in supension, which is fine for soil. But hard to apply. It is easier to dry cast the lime or use a spreader, start with about 10 grams per square meter, spread out well, avoiding clumps of lime. It is better to repeat a few times than to put too much on at once and burn the surface.
first get a soil analysis. then apply the recommended amount ; dig it in a lttle. water it a lttle. done. the effect will start taking effect at nature's own speed.
