I need to make lead anchors for my duck decoys, about 75 of them. The anchors need to look like a strap (4 to 5 inches long, about 3/4 inch wide, and about 1/4 inch thick). I thought about using some copper plumbing pipe cut in half lengthwise to make a mold. Would the molten lead stick to the copper when it solidifies? If it does stick, what is something else that I could use as a mold.
Yes, lead will stick to copper if the copper is clean. A better solution might to use aluminum. If you want you can use a piece of thin aluminum flashing and bend it easily into a trough shape and use that as a mold. Copper is a poor choice. Think about it - copper piping is typically assembled using lead / tin solder - it sticks. Good luck
