Question:

will my plastic pipes rot?

Hi thereMe and my husband are in the middle of putting in a kitchen island to which we are incorporating a island sink.We have channeled into the ground ran the waste pipe and cold/hot water, the thing is we have used the plastic type then covered over with sand and cement. We have now been told by a family friend that we should not use plastic pipes for it as it will rot the plastic and in time waste will end up under are floor. Is this true? would appreciate someone who knows about this to give us a right answer or any tips. Thanks in advance

Answer:

Im 99% of most circumstances, PVC will last longer than the house itself.
If you're talking hot and cold supply lines, you are most likey using PEX, which is a PVC based product and it will last longer than you will.
plastic does not rot in the ground for a long long time it may crack due to expansion and contraction due to hot and cold over time but even that is highly unlikely
not to sure if i understand the q but if u using plastic pipe the cold will be ok id find out what temp the pipe will take for the hot water as it might be a problem latter but the pipe wont rot
Plastic pipes (PVC) does not rot. It is the preferred material for underground wastewater pipes. Copper pipe is the preferred material for underground hot and cold water pipes, but PVC is a less expensive alternative.
