i need to connect a new bathroom light/fan combo to existing wiring. Existing wiring is black/white/red/copper. The new fixture wiring is black/blue/white/white. Thanks
Steven F has nailed it. I'll add that the fixture probably has a green screw: connect the bare copper wire to that.
black on black should be fan, red on blue should be light and white on white the second white should go with the other whites they probably are independent commons but can go together on the same common. good luck!
the fan has a blue and black wire each is a switch leg one to the light and one to the fan..the switch has a feed usually darker color and two switch leg wires. the hot incoming wire feeding the switch goes on the feed wire and the two switch legs go on the other terminals. if this does not solve the problem you must have the fan wired wrong...
The existing wiring should be as follows: Black and Red are both hot. White is neutral. Copper is ground. The fan/light fixture should be as follows: Black and Blue are hot for the light and fan separately. White and White are neutral for the light and fan separately. Connect all 3 white wires. Connect the two black wires. Connect the Red and Blue wires. Connect the copper to metal on the fixture. The only thing left is to determine which switch is the light and which is the fan.
