all my car brake lights are out. i checked the light bulbs, and they were all okay, and i also checked all of the fuses and they were also okay. all the light signals and all the other lights were working fine. so now what do i need to do to check to fix the brake lights problem?
There is a switch up on the brake pedal. I would venture to guess that it is either broken or out of adjustment. When you find it jump a paperclip across the two terminals to see if the lights come on. If they do then it is time for a switch. If not then get a test light (like $5 at a parts store). Touch it from the power side to a good metal ground on the car and see if it lights. If so then you are getting power that far. Touch it across the two terminals and see if it still lights. If it doesn't then there is a broken wire, bad connection, etc between the switch and the lights.
Check the brake light sensor switch on the brake pedal, make sure that it's making contact. If it isn't, your brake lights won't come on.
Most likely brake switch - what is year/make/model?
A friend of mine had a dog that would bite through the brake lines... have you checked them to make sure they are intact?
