Question:

Word Problem Help?

A silo is a structure that is shaped like a right circular cylinder with a half sphere on top. The surface area of a silo of height h and radius r ( including the area of the base) is given by the polynomial 2(pi)r h + (pi) r^2 (Note that h is the height of the entire silo.) Find an eqivalent expression by factoring out a common factor.

Answer:

Use the distributive rule surface area = 2(π)rh + (π)r? = (πr)(2h) + (πr)r = (πr)(2h + r)
It's not really a word problem. You can ignore everything before 2(pi)r h + (pi) r^2. Factor that. Use the distributive property.
2pi r h* pi r^2= d pi h* pi r^2. This is all I can think of or now. Sorry. :-(
