Question:

Would a 1 gallon fuel cell be too small for dirt track racing?

I want to build a factory stock car, and was wondering if 1 gallon would be too small and I should go bigger?

Answer:

There is no way you will get by with a gallon fuel cell in a stock car.Just think about it, you go out and the track and probably run 3 or 4 laps before the green flag drops and then you have to race fo maybe 20 laps with out any cautions. It's not going to make it. As far as weight there will be a minimum weight the car can weigh so you usually have to add lead to make the legal weight. If you are building a car you need to get a rule book from the track you are going to be running on. You just can't throw something together and take it and race it.
Why would you put a one gallon fuel cell? To save weight? Fuel weighs about 6LBS a gallon. Seems like you would run the risk of fuel starvation. I'd put in a larger tank and only run what fuel you need. Maybe that's 1 lbs more in aluminum. Just don't eat crappy food.
How many Miles Per Gallon are you anticipating ANY race engine, or any engine used for racing, actually getting? And just how short, or how long, are the races you're planning on racing in? Doesn't appear you've thought this out at all.
1 gallon is way too small. most V-8 classes that aren't late models use a 15 gallon cell. I think 4 cylinder cars could probably get away with a 10 gallon. You look really dumb when you run out of fuel.
