Question:

Would carbon arrows make a big difference over aluminum?

i shoot a PSE vengeance set at 65 lbs. right now im shooting 2114 xx75 aluminum arrows tipped with 100 grain muzzy broadheads. would shooting carbons make a big difference in speed? though it may be faster, would it sacrafice knockdown power?(kenetic energy). can i get some opinions of pros and cons on these two arrows. i would just try some carbons, but they are just too high to buy and try out.

Answer:

I shoot carbon arrows. Vapor blackhawk by Easton. I love them. I will never go back to aluminum. As far as knockdown power it only takes 12 pounds of pressure to penetrate a deer. So if speed is your concern go for the carbons. You will not be disappointed. The only flaw I found in carbons is they are hard to tune. But once you get them tuned in you are go to go.
cabon has certain atvantages over aluminum. they are more rugged, faster, and alot quiter.you can do a test and prove all 3. shoot the aluminum. then come back with the carbon. you need to line up you fletchings with the broadhead.it will be immediately noticable how all three things are seen. i brought a buddy from michigan to texas. he shot aluminum. he never aligned his fletchings. he shot from 30 yards, you could hear the aluminum arrow. when he changed to carbon and aligbned the fletchings with the broadhead blade it was very nocicably faster and more accurate.just do the test and you will see first hand the difference. ----retiredb texas deputy sheriff----
Considering a modern bow at 65 lbs with a carbon shaft arrow and decent broadhead will go clean through a deer, I wouldn't worry about trying to increase penetration, as it's just going to go further into the ground on the other side of the deer.
Who told you that arrow choice should be picked based on speed ? Knockdown power ? Do you think that the negligible difference between aluminum Easton XX75's and Carbon arrow is speed? The Deer won't notice and there is little or no chance it will jump your string when you shoot. That all depends on how much noise your bow makes..nothing to do with the tpe of arrows used. The Carbon is a better choice due to it's light weight and durability over aluminum shafts. Carbon recovers where as aluminum bends and stays bent.Simple
Any amount of force or knockdown you lose from weight you should regain by speed of the carbons. I used to shoot carbon gold tip hunter pros and I shot through 3 pieces of plywood and the arrow was perfect. So carbon arrows are extremely strong. I recently changed to Carbon Express Maxima Hunters and I just seem to shoot more accurately with them. But as for carbon being better than aluminum, it really depends on you the hunter. If you are drilling everything dead nuts with aluminum, you don't really need to shoot carbon. If you are having issues with accuracy, like I did with my PSE Vengeance, then it may be the bow, like it was with mine. I bought a Hoyt after I got rid of my PSE and now I shoot 3 or smaller groups at 60 yards. Good enough for me. Anyway, There are pros to going carbon, but if you are shooting well with the aluminum arrows then you don't need to change. The deer will die if you center punch it every time- carbon or aluminum. Shoot whatever you need to shoot in order for you to make accurate and deadly shots. If you feel carbon would help because you are off with the aluminum, then buy 3 single arrows in carbon and practice with them. See if they help before you drop a bunch of cash on a dozen.
