Wrapping food in foil before freezing?

I've heard that wrapping your foodstuffs in aluminum foil before storing in the freezer is actually bad for the food, and then I've seen some answers that suggest otherwiseWhat do you think? Does it actually extend 'freezer life' or does it encourage 'freezer burn'?
