Question:

2001 Honda Civic Transmission?

My Transmission seems to slip a bit when it goes to 3rd gear. What could this be? It is a 2001 civic with only 63000 miles on it. It only happens for a second, but then when it goes to 3rd gear the engine will race and the RPM‘s shoot up about 500 to 700 more and then shifts. The rest of the gears seem to be fine.

Answer:

Guess what.my 2001 Civic transmission just went today. Well I think it is my transmission.the engine revs but it won't move.auto transmission, 55,000 miles. I've never had any trouble with the car until now. But what you describe is exactly what happened to me today before I was stranded on the highway. GET IT LOOKED AT ASAP!!!!!
well did you buy it from a Honda dealer it should be certified and if not check with Honda and see if there are any warranties for your tranny Honda has had alot of tranny problems in cars from 98 to 02 and have extended the warranty on most models but if not the transmission will cost around 3000 dollars and about a additional 1000 for the labor if you get them from a Honda dealer and have them install it and another thing you can do is actually contact American Honda motor company and talk to some one there Honda is very very big on good costumer service and if you complain enough Honda will help you and cover most of the cost i hope this helps
Your transmission is on its way out. All the ATs on the 6th generation Accord and 2nd gen Acuras have a bad 3rd gear clutch pack. There was a class action lawsuit against Honda America that resulted in a 100k mile/7yr warrenty extension on some automatic transmissions. Do some research and find out if your car is covered with your VIN number. I have a 2003 Acura 3.2TL-S with nearly the same motor and the same tranny. Make sure you get your car checked because the gear can warp, and possibly break, causing in a downshift to 2nd or 3rd at highway speeds and even a loss of control.
Buy four new bridgestones. You'll be happy with them.
