Question:

A bird with 1 wing can't flyCould it give itself enough lift to jump further? Or bank to avoid being eaten?

Is it possible that a large bird such as a crane, heron or eagle could use only one wing to give itself a little extra lift when going for a leapCould it maybe use that one wing and it's legs to scrabble madly away from a potential predator?Just something I thought about.

No, unfortunately notWhen a licensed wildlife rehabilitator gets a bird like that, it either has to be kept (if they have the proper educational purpose license), sent to a zoo or given to a wildlife biologist that has the appropriate license, or it must be euthanizedA PC (permanent cripple) bird can never be released back into the wild, as it will not surviveIf it is a bird of prey, it can not catch enough to feed itself, if it is a prey species, it will be devoured quickly, as it will be unable to outdistance any predator, ariel or ground.
