About to Buy Lincoln Mark VIII but something is wrong with air ride suspension?

Hello, im about to buy Lincoln Mark VIII 1995 but im not sure if i should because the owner said that the front and rear air ride suspnsion needs to be fixed or converted to standard suspension but im not sure how much it would cost and is it worth fixing it up and it is my first car so i wouldent want it to break on me and im getting a really good deal only for $500 thanks

Answer:

common problem with air ride might want to check a local shop or two see how much it cost to repair air ride just call three local shop ask
Saw a thing about replacement springs on a TV show a few weeks ago. But there are things you can check yourself if you're handy. Most air rides develop problems in the air lines not the shocks . Support the car on blocks, NOT a jack and start it , crawl under and listen for an air leak, then replace that part, Altho you may have more than 1.
The 92+ Lincoln Mark 8 is a good car with a very reliable drivetrain, but the suspension was a bit poor. I think the air ride started going out before the cars would reach 50,000 miles, and rather than spend the high amounts of money on new air ride parts that would just go out again in another 50k, most people just convert it to a conventional spring and shock/strut system. It's not the cheapest, but it's cheaper than replacing the air suspension, and more reliable. As for the price, I'd buy it for that, if nothing else I could part it out and sell certain individual parts of that car for what it cost to buy.
