Question:

Aluminum Square Pipe?

Does anyone know the weight load capacity of Aluminum Square Piping? I am looking at building structure to support a chair and am thinking about using 3/4 Aluminum Square Pipe with 1/16 thick gauge aluminum, just need to know if it will support up to 225 pound... Basic dimensions of structure are 28 wide and 18 tall. Lemme know if you need more info. Thanks!

Answer:

I work with aluminum all day every day. You should go with at least 1/8 wall, (.125) or go to .160 wall. If you really want to stay with .0625 wall then you need to go to a larger tube, such as 1.5 or 2 tube. Or cut the higth down to 9. There are many different ways to go so it is up to you. If you are sure you want to go with those dim. then get thicker wall.
