It's not so much about bacteria, it's to do with oxygen getting to the metal of the can, causes stuff to leach into the food and rust to form on the metalJust transfer to an airtight container.
never leave an open can in the fridge.it could rust.at the very least transfer to a plastic or glass container.if you plan on using it within a day I guess covering with a paper would be ok, but if your not going to use it that same day I would find something with a lid.
