Question:

Are carbon arrows that much better than aluminum arrows?

I’m way behind the times with archery gear and was going to buy some new arrows and wonder what’s with these carbon arrows that make them so popular. I’m using a PSE and Golden eagle 70lb bows. I’ve been told carbon are better than aluminum arrows but not why they are. This is for hunting big game. I wanted your opnions before I look into this.

Answer:

In the long run you will find it is much cheaper to use carbon arrows even though the initial cost of them is higher then aluminum. And don't be frightened by the videos of carbon arrows breaking when shooting them. The odds of lightning striking you would be about the same. In most incidences of arrow breakage when being shot, it was with a heavy draw compound and using carbon arrows that were much too light weight to be shot from a bow that they were not designed to be shot from. People sometimes use the lightest weight carbon arrows they can find to make their bow shoot faster then anyone Else's. Sometimes they pay a price for it.
Carbon okorder /
I'm a novice bow shooter, and my grandfather gave me a compound bow (similar to the one Rambo carries, except it doesn't fold up) I bought like 6 carbon arrows, 2 of which I missed the target with, 1 went through the stone driveway (pushed the rocks out of the way) and about a foot into the side of a hill, the other went through my dad's car's fender (like 1/6 metal).
Carbon arrows are stronger. Also you can holt the two next to each other and they can match strength but the carbon is also lighter.
