Question:

Are my bald front tires damaging anything in my suspension system?

ive been driving around with some pretty bald tires for the last 4 months or so and my rack and pinion steering system recently needed to be replaced.Less then two months later it seems the same thing is happening. there is a ton of slack in the steering wheel. the thought occured to me when i finally replaced my front tires today and eliminated easily 50% of the road vibrations. So it seems possible that this is what made my rack and pinion steering system go bad but im no professional, What do you think?

Answer:

If your tire is too big, then yeah there will be complications in your suspension system.
Most definitely. Bald tires put extra pressure on the steering rod ends as well as the steering box or the rack and pinion steering (I don't know what type of vehicle you have). I think this is like which came first the chicken or the egg. If your tires wore out that fast The probable cause is in the suspension and steering, not the tires. They are the result. Have someone work the steering wheel back and forth as you look under neath for worn or lose parts or take it to a local shop or dealer to have it checked out.
YOU DROVE ON BALD TIRES FOR 4 MONTHS? Are you married? Do you have kids? Do you care?
