Question:

break lights dont work. ?

i think its a fuse.? some guy told me that he was going to rear end me cause of it. recently i had a stereo put in that could have messed with the wiring. i also had an accident and my car was in the repair shop. . . ? what should i do should i take it to a dealership and they can check it or is it a simple fuse? i have a toyota camry 2006 with power windows.

Answer:

First check the fuse. You may have a defective brake light switch (located at the brake pedal) or it could be out of adjustment. A 2006 model should still be IN WARRANTY. Have the dealership look at it. Even if you have to pay for it, it shouldn't cost much.
95% of the time its a fuse or the light bulb burned out, just like at home. id investigate that since they're both a couple dollars to fix together compared to what a dealer would charge. chances are the kid working at autozone would even fix it for you. if that doesn't work id take it to the dealer because it could be some weird wiring issue. while its unlikely it could happen.
First check the bulb, see if your filament is intact. Then use a multimeter to check if 12v is coming in your brake light when brakes are pressed. If no voltage then check the fuse box and see if the fuse is blown. If it is not take it to the mechanic.
Try brake light switch at brake pedal after checking bulb and fuse.
It's not very likely that both bulbs would go out at the same time so check the fuse first, then the brake pedal switch, also check to see if any other components are malfunctioning as sometimes the brake fuse covers other items, although ti's not likely to be the bulbs it's worth checking them. But I would bet it's the brake pedal switch.
