Question:

can 20 wheels damage the suspension system and drive train on my 94 BMW 740il (e32)?

I got a set of brand new Stern Yoshi st6 chrome 20 rims to give my car more of the pimp ride but classy look.I want to if know if those rims will do damages to my car, and what kind of damage and so on.the fitments are.5x120 13mm 8.5If they won‘t damage anything, then I will get 245x30x20 tires and the correct bolt pattern spacers for them.i know this will be sacrificial to the ride quality and acceleration performance but for me, it would be a small one if it isn‘t too bad.well there you have it.will it be worth it for the looks are will it cause me a major financial regret?thx:)

Answer:

20 inches will give you a ruff ride eventually wearing them down faster i would of went with 19s or 18s you would have nice looking rims and have a nice comfortable ride
Check your Positive Crankcase Vent system. It can cause high pressure in the crankcase and push oil thru the rings from below.
it probally just need valve seals- there pretty good about that- have an oil anlisis done on it at your big truck shop-cost you about 15 bucks- will tell you alot about what going on in there- haow much bearing material in oil
Drive train no. Suspension, eh, not really. just take into consideration that the bigger rim/tyre might rub the fender and you might have to roll/flare them (so either roll the inner metal lip in the inside of the fender with a rubber hammer, or physiclly pull the fenders out). Also a bigger or smaller tyre/rim will affect the speed at which you are actually going and what your tach reads, very small difference but just to let you know. also the final gear ration will change. there are calulators online that will tell you your new speed and ratio. Last they can affect suspension geometry due to the height at which the suspension components sit, also how much higher the vehicle sits and etc. so this affect suspension angles, center of gravity and stuff. BUT it wont hurt the car, it just suffers suspension wise.
