Question:

Can a car pass inspection with a bad transmission?

I just bought I guess what would be a lemon it has a bad transmission. :( My question is, I bought it only 11 days after it passed inspection with flying colors. This was a dealershipSome with Texas inspection knowledge please give me some input Cause Im pissed.

Answer:

Transmissions play no part in emissions testing. So the answer is yes, a car can pass an emissions test with a bad transmission. Sometimes, but not always, changing transmission fluid can help an ailing transmission. Something to think about before looking for a transmission mechanic.
as long as you can get it at the inspection station and everything else is good like brakes and steering for example and also the emissions then you can get a sticker on it.
In the UK a car can pass an inspection (we call them MOT's) without even having an engine. The inspection just checks for things which could be detrimental to safety, i.e brakes, suspension, exhaust. I'd guess it's probably the same there.
