Question:

Cars with the rear axle lifted. Is there a name for this?

I am doing a research project and I need to find pictures of classic muscle cars that have the back end all lifted up in the air. Like way up. Does anybody know what this style is called or just some terminology I can use in google to find them. Kind of like street drag racing style?? Thank you.

Answer:

I'LL LIFT YOUR REAR AXLE BABY! WHERE DO YOU LIVE?!
The axles weren't lifted, the frames were - usually with air shocks, spring shackles, or blocks in the rear coil springs.
Jacked up, or raked. Another possibility is a gasser these are the old oddly tall dragsters that were lifted and modified so full headers and large motors could be fit into a car that otherwise would not have had room. It was a trend in the 70s and 80s to jack up the rear of the car in order to fit wide tires that wouldn't fit inside the fenders. This is accomplished now by widening the fenders. (there were weight transfer issues with just jacking the suspention up)
